I love Octobers because it marks the arrival of beauty advent calendars (BAC)! Let’s find out more about them!
Never heard of one? “Advent” means Coming in Latin and an advent calendar counts the days to Christmas. The idea is to have small gifts in drawers (representing days to Christmas) in one big box (the calendar). Each drawer reveals a small gift in the form of a beauty product.
You should buy a BAC for two reasons. Firstly, the BAC allows you to try many luxury, high-end beauty products at a fraction of their retail price. Consumers get a massive discount because the products are being bought in a bundle of 20-30 products.
Secondly, I’ve lost count of the number of times that I’ve bought a full-sized beauty product only to have issues with it soon after. BACs are a cost-effective way to try out (e.g.) Dr Barbara Strum or Sunday Riley products, without burning a hole in your pocket.
These are my three favourite calendars:
No 1: Harrods
Harrods excels at attention to detail, and this calendar is no exception as each product is individually wrapped.
Harrods releases this calendar on 14th October, and it’s likely to retail at AED 1,200 – AED 1,500 in price, but providing AED 5,500+ in value.
Notable products are 111Skin Vitamin C Brightening Booster and Dr. Barbara Strum Super Anti-Aging Serum.
You would buy this calendar because you unashamedly love luxury or want to impress. Further details at this link
No 2: Space NK
I love Space NK stores in London, and seeing one in Dubai would be a dream come true! In the meantime, we will have to do with this mammoth 30-piece advent calendar with products from relative newbie, Augustinus Bader, and seasoned brands (La Mer and Sisley).
At AED 1,035, this calendar is a steal. Further details at this link with delivery starting 18th October.
No 3: Huda Beauty
Dubai-based Huda Beauty has launched its first advent calendar, which comes beautifully packaged in a rose quartz Huda pout.
The contents balance new skincare releases from Wishful (such as the Honey Whip Peptide Moisturizer) and old favourites such as the Power Bullet matte lipstick.
Priced at AED 719
