Matram is a fine dining restaurant that serves Pan- Indian cuisine. Its attempt to bring diverse regional Indian cuisine under one roof is simply commendable.
It’s not just the flavours at Matram that steal the spotlight. The themed décor is equally enthralling. The restaurant is primarily designed as a South Indian home. The décor is characterized by belled doors, stoned columns, mosaic flooring, painted stuccos, carved jharokhas, which is much in tandem with its culinary offerings. The sky- blue ceiling lends a pleasant, open feel to the seating. Comfy and beautifully upholstered sofas give all reasons for having a relaxed and delicious meal and I literally overstayed my visit owing to such gorgeous interiors and relaxed seating.
Coming to the hero- the gastronomical offering, we were simply taken aback with the varieties and innovativeness of the dishes. Chef Suresh Fartyal, the mastermind behind the gastronomy, has ensured that the menu catches and retains the guests attention not just with taste but visual presentation, too.
We started our meal with Crisp Lotus Root Chips served with a trilogy of dips: all novice for me but finger-licking to the utmost- Bhaang chutney, Pineapple chutney, and Green Apple Chutney- a welcome deviation from the usual mint chutney. all dips were so delicious, we had repeat servings of the same.
Apart from this, what had my full attention was the signature creation- Tender Coconut Chilly Fry, a standout dish made with the flesh of tender coconut cooked in its own water, finished with a spicy sauce. It’s healthy and unlike anything I’ve had elsewhere.

Other dishes that stood out for us were the scrumptious Dahi Kebab and Sakarkand and Kachalu Chat Canapes. Hara Bhara Kebab Shots served with tangy water also tasted heavenly. Mushroom with Ghee Roast Appam was a good variant as was the The Pahadi style Ragi Roti with Kale Saag. Rice with Pineapple Curry were delightful and welcome new dishes that we heartily relished. The artisan-crafted mocktails Buransh Bloom and Gondoraj Cooler were a perfect addition to the delectable meal. Dessert was again a superhit with delicious Gulab Jamun Cheesecake and Coconut Kulfi. Both were yumm!!
I give a big thumbs up to the entire team for rustling up dishes with elan and perfect taste. The serving staff made it a very memorable experience. Service to detail and attentiveness is the hallmark of this fine dining place along with value for money.
I would rate my Mataram dining experience a highly pleasing and memorable one and I highly recommend it to everyone who loves Indian cuisine with a bit of twist and enigma , of course in a gorgeously fine dining atmosphere!!
