SAMBAZON sets gold standard for conscious commerce and sustainability

Each SAMBAZON product sold is more than just a superfood – it’s a vote for fair wages, rainforest preservation, and a healthier planet. Sambozan empowers Amazonian communities, safeguarding biodiversity, and redefining sustainable business models.

SAMBAZON, the pioneer in certified Fair Trade and organic açaí, is underlining the profound impact of its conscious business practices – practices that protect the Amazon Rainforest, empower local communities, and inspire an entire industry to rethink what responsible growth looks like.

Founded in 2000 with a mission to harness the power of the Amazon superfood responsibly, SAMBAZON was the first brand to bring certified açaí to the global market. But SAMBAZON isn’t just a consumer favorite – it’s a blueprint for how modern businesses can serve both people and the planet.

Ryan Black, SAMBAZON Co-Founder and CEO, says: “It’s 2025, and more businesses need to put people and the planet ahead of profits. We’ve always believed sustainability should be at the heart of how a company operates – not a footnote. The question is no longer whether businesses should act, rather how they can be part of a meaningful solution.

“From day one, SAMBAZON has operated on a Triple Bottom Line – balancing social, environmental, and financial impact. This approach is not about making compromises, rather, it’s about proving that a for-profit company can operate responsibly while driving meaningful change.”

And this approach has delivered measurable results.

In 2023 alone, SAMBAZON certified 48,115 hectares (118,895 acres) of land in the Amazon under Fair Trade guidelines – that’s nearly the size of New York City – safeguarded from destructive practices and preserved for future generations.

These practices not only help preserve delicate ecosystems but have also contributed to the storage of an estimated 5.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide – the equivalent to about 1.3 million passenger vehicles driven for one year!

To date, the company has also invested nearly US$2M in Fair Trade community projects to date, funding education, healthcare, and infrastructure in açaí-harvesting regions – empowering local families and ensuring long-term stability for the communities that are the rainforest’s best protectors.

These initiatives are not charity; they are investments in the long-term stability of the SAMBAZON supply chain and the well-being of the stewards of the rainforest.

The urgency of addressing deforestation and biodiversity loss in the Amazon cannot be overstated. Every minute, an area of rainforest roughly the size of a football field is cleared, often for industries prioritizing short-term profits over long-term sustainability.

And SAMBAZON’s sustainability story doesn’t stop at the forest’s edge. The company has made major strides in packaging innovation, reducing plastic use by 43% per ounce of product with its Açaí Smoothie Cubes and diverting over 99% of its waste from landfill. Its journey is one of continuous improvement, driven by transparency, collaboration, and a refusal to accept business-as-usual.

“Business and environmental responsibility are not opposing forces,” added Black. “We’re showing that they can, and must, coexist. We believe the future of conscious commerce is one where sustainability and profitability go hand in hand, where businesses not only mitigate harm but actively regenerate the ecosystems they depend on. The Amazon is one of the world’s greatest natural treasures, and its protection is a shared responsibility – one that companies, governments and consumers must take seriously.”

And Black also realises collaboration is key. SAMBAZON actively partners with organizations including the Rainforest Trust, One Step Closer, and the Sustainable Food Trade Action Council to build a global movement for ethical sourcing and ecosystem regeneration. The company is also calling on other açaí producers to embrace Fair Trade Certification and commit to the future of the Amazon.

Each SAMBAZON product sold is more than just a superfood – it’s a vote for fair wages, rainforest preservation, and a healthier planet. In an era where consumers demand more from brands, SAMBAZON stands as proof that doing good and doing well are not mutually exclusive – they’re the future.
